Want to book the the test yourself? There are really two main ways in which you can book with the DVSA (This is the government organisation that manages tests); You can book online using the government online booking service- https://www.gov.uk/book-driving-test or if you have time to kill (as it can take ages to get through) you can book your car driving test by phone, you can call DVSA’s booking service on 0300 200 1122. In order to book a test you will need your driving licence number.

Driving test availability and waiting times

We get asked this question all the time and it can vary dramatically. It can depend on what area you live in, who you book with (eg a company or instructor), sometimes it can just be a case of luck! The average waiting time for a practical test booked through the DVSA is 6 months, sometimes there are not even any tests available to book. We often have cancellations so it is worth being added to our cancellation list (priority for cancellations is given to pupils that are already booked in with us)

How to get an earlier driving test date

You can search for earlier driving test dates yourself (at no cost) on the DVSA website but you’ll need to be both very persistent, patient as well as lucky. You will undoubtedly have to spend a lot of time checking. The problem is that if you do get an earlier date you may not be able to find an instructor that can take you for a test at short notice and the most important question is are you ready for test? We often have and also hear of many companies and instructors having pupils contacting them saying “I have a test booked for next week can you fit me in?” realistically they cannot.
We regularly check for tests and cancellations so that you don’t have to.
Book with us and we will do our best to get you in as quickly as possible. We will be honest with you and tell you the next available dates that we have but we can also put you on a cancellation list and bring your date forward if you wish. We always ensure that we can book a test for the end of your course.

Changing or rescheduling a driving test

If you are booked in with us and would like to change or cancel your driving test we can do this for you. Notice is required and depending on circumstances we usually charge a fee.

Driving test fees

The cost of a standard practical car driving test is £62. Extended driving tests eg for those who have been banned etc £124. Tests at the weekend or late evenings (very rare to find these tests) £75
