Terms and Conditions

If booking online we strongly recommend you check availability and discuss your course requirements before paying your deposit. We want to ensure, as much as possible, that you are booking a course which is going to be suitable for you. In particular we wish to make it clear that you must be driving at a safe standard in order to take your practical driving test with us – read below Practical Driving Test.

We take road safety seriously and like any reputable driving school we aim for a client centred approach and we will aim to structure a course to suit you.

Learndrive have been running courses for over 35 years. We genuinely hope, like the vast majority of our customers, that you enjoy your course with us and we ask that you read the terms and conditions so that you understand how the courses work. Any questions please contact us.

Booking requirements

DVSA Driving Test Booking Policy (From May 2026)

From 12 May 2026, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) requires all learner drivers to book and manage their driving test directly through the official system.

If the DVSA changes or reschedules your driving test date, you must inform  Learndrive immediately. It is the learner’s responsibility to regularly check emails and DVSA notifications and promptly update Learndrive

While your instructor will always try to accommodate a new driving test date, please be aware that intensive driving course schedules may not always be adjustable once they have been confirmed and booked.

You must bring a valid UK driving licence and your eyesight must reach the required legal standard. Failure to meet these requirements will result in your course not proceeding. It is really important that you get your eyesight checked before you attend your course.

Make us aware before booking of any health issues either mental or physical, which may affect your ability to perform as expected on an intensive driving course. An intensive course is just that and it may not be suitable for everyone.

Should you need to amend your course this may incur an admin fee.  For booked more than 6 months in advance then we reserve the right in exceptional circumstances to review the price of the course.

Course Information

Learndrive Ltd acts as an agency for your self employed driving instructor. The vast majority of our instructors have worked with us for many years and are very experienced. We only work with instructors that we consider to be responsible, reliable and of a very high standard, thus helping us maintain our excellent reputation. The contract for service (tuition) is between yourself and your appointed learndrive instructor. Learndrive LTD driving school is a separate trading entity which has been authorized to act as a booking agent. Learndrive LTD, are at no time liable for the instructors actions and cannot be held liable for actions of third parties or circumstances beyond its control. Please note that many major driving schools in the UK operate in this way with self-employed instructors.

The total course hours include any breaks that the driving instructor feel is necessary, travel to and from test centre and the test and debrief time. If a test is not required, or test standard not reached, then this time will be given as tuition time.

Practical Driving Test

You are responsible for providing us with the correct details of your driving test.  In order to take the driving test you must be able to show skill and judgement and drive safely in different road and traffic conditions, as well as show that you know The Highway Code. As progress can vary between learners we cannot guarantee that the pupil will reach a high enough standard in order to take the practical test. If the pupil does not reach a standard considered safe by the instructor then the instructor is within their rights to refuse the use of their vehicle for the Driving Test. The instructor’s decision must be accepted as final. This is in the interest of the pupil, examiner and other road users and is as a precautionary road safety measure. It is not our policy, nor that of the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) to allow a pupil to take the Driving Test for the “experience”. Should you need any further clarification on this please do not hesitate to contact us. We strive to provide a client centred approach to driving and we aim to teach safe driving for life and not just to pass a test.

Your test must be booked at one of the following North West test centres- Blackpool, Preston, Heysham. unless otherwise agreed in writing. It is the learner’s responsibility to ensure we are given the correct and up to date driving test details and bring a valid UK  provisional licence for test.

With your permission your photo may be taken after taking test, we may use this for Facebook and other promotional use, should you not wish us to do so please advise us accordingly.

Automatic tuition

Unfortunately it is now necessary for us to charge more for tuition in the automatic car than the manual car. Automatic tuition will incur an additional fee of £5 per hour. We usually have a much longer waiting time for tuition in the automatic compared with the manual car, so please confirm dates before paying a deposit.

Customer payment scheme

When making a booking a minimum deposit of £100.00 is required paid direct to Learndrive LTD. Deposits are non-refundable, non transferable and last for 6 months. No other refund of monies paid will be given unless 14 working days notice has been given. Should you need to cancel or reschedule your course you must let us know immediately- this may incur a rescheduling fee. Should you start and not choose not to complete your course in full no refund will be given.

After the deposit has been paid a partial payment will then be requested, this must be settled at least 4 weeks prior to start of the course, late payments may result in cancellation of the course and the deposit will be lost. The remaining balance should be paid direct to the instructor on or before arrival. Please note most Learndrive instructors do not accept payment by card, so cash or bank transfer is necessary, this is to help prevent fraud and keep costs down. Should you wish to make a further payment before arrival then this will be held in the Learndrive instructors clients holding account. This money is being held on behalf of you and the instructor. This money is not normally passed onto the instructor until the first day of your course, please note that due to accounting reasons we will only hold this money in the account for 6 months after this time it will be non refundable.
